Why choose Fresh Horizons?
Unlike many of the larger tutoring agencies that exist, I believe in a personalised approach where quality teaching in line with the methods and principles taught in schools, is followed. I am also a member of 'The Tutors Association; - the only Government recognised professional body for tutors. This means you have the assurance of knowing that I have to adhere to a rigorous code of practice and safeguarding/DBS certificates are always up-to-date.
You won’t find students working independently on computer programmes at Fresh Horizons, nor will you find worksheets being distributed. Instead, all students receive individualised support for GCSE English Tuition whether face-to-face or online. All students are encouraged and positively ‘pushed’ to achieve the absolute best grades they are able.
A comprehensive schedule for the year is mapped out for those preparing for GCSE to ensure all components of both the Language and the Literature exams are met. My evening group workshops have proved to be an enormously successful and cost-effective way to access tutoring with 40 students now attending throughout the week!
Online learning
The recent pandemic forced me to embrace technology and move my service online via Zoom. This has proved very successful with outcomes matching face-to-face tuition - I now work online with the majority of my clients.
It also means I can teach anywhere in the country. For the families I work with, there is the convenience of not having to leave home but also the reassurance that should a student, or indeed the whole country, contract a contagious infection, education is uninterrupted.
A growing number of families are now choosing to home educate their children – online tuition to support this is a perfect way to support students during the day.
There’s more than one way to learn!
Sensibly, many families are now employing the support of a tutor from Year 7 rather than waiting until the exam years. The building blocks for GCSE are developed and enhanced from entry to secondary school. It probably goes without saying that the earlier a student accesses support, the greater their chance of success.
I have begun experimenting with ‘outside learning’ whereby I teach younger students in places of interest using the environment as the stimuli for writing – one such example was creating stories in a local churchyard. Students created characters from the names on the gravestones, took photos and created scrap books.
This alternative approach yielded some amazing writing and was really suited to students who struggle to concentrate in the classroom environment.
I could go on and on selling myself, but I think my parents and students do a better job than I ever could – click on the testimonials tab and see what they have to say! Please get in touch for an informal chat; there’s nothing to lose and it could really make a difference to your child’s future.
